BioFERMA series are low-cost, compact, autoclavable and in-situ sterilizable laboratory fermentors and bioreactors perfect for a range of educational, research and industrial applications.
Using the latest in 16 bit microprocessor technology we offer fermentors and bioreactors that use multi-loop process control techniques to maximize yields in cell-culture and fermentation. At the heart of our fermentors and bioreactors lies 16 bit PLC microcontrollers from USA.
On board electronics, relays, actuators and bio-sensors are sourced from reputed and reliable manufacturers like Texas Instruments, Allegro Micro, National Semi, etc. to give a specialised controller system for these fermentors and bioreactors that works effectively and is extremely reliable.
Systems are available for microbial and cell culture:
- Microbial Culture: Bacterial, Yeast and Fungi culture.
- Cell Culture: Plant, Animal and Insect culture.
- Moving up from a tissue culture flask and shaker.
- Glass culture vessels (2.5 L, 4 L, 7 L).
- Other sizes also available on request.
BioFERMA fermentors and bioreactors have dedicated microprocessor controller system that has been designed specifically for autoclavable and in-situ sterilizable laboratory bioreactor and fermentor control.
Vessel
Glass
- Borosilicate glass vessels of volumes 2.5 L, 4 L, 7 L & 10L.
- Single walled and double-wall jacketed vessels available as per customer request.
- User defined volumes can also be supplied (f.e. 5L). Working volume is 40% to 90% of total volume (i.e. from 1L to 9L in different configurations).
- D / H ratio of vessel is 1:2 to 1: 3 depending on volume.
StainlessSteel- Stainless steel S316L vessels for volumes of 10 L and above.
- Standard volumes are 10 L, 15 L, 35 L. Use r defined sizes can be supplied too.
- Design pressure is 3 Bars.
Head Plate
Material
- Stainless Steel 316L head plate has sufficient number of ports.
- Contact parts are made from SS316L.
- All ports have been designed to prevent contamination cross-over.
- Fitting of ports, sensors, tubings, motor etc. is convenient.
- Glass bottomed vessels have single top head-plate.
- Open-ended vessels have top head plate and bottom support plate
Ports
- Ports are provided on head plate and vessels made of SS 316L for pH sensor, DO sensor, foam sensor, temperature thermowell sensor, air sparger inlet, air venting exhaust with air filter, agitation motor or magnetic coupling stirrer shaft, heating/cooling finger for thermal control, acid, base/alkali, anti-foam addition, inoculum/septum feed and sample harvest, blind-plugged spare ports, drain port (in select models) etc.
- Contact parts are made from SS316L.
- All ports, valves, fittings have been designed to prevent contamination cross-over.
- Fitting of sensors, tubing, motor, etc is convenient.
- Ports have O-rings in pharma grade silicone.
Stirring & Agitation
Material
- Stainless Steel 316L stirring rod with options for Rushton type impellers, low-shear marine propellor type stirrer blade or any user defined option.
Coupling
- Options for Top-driven Mechanical and Magnetic Coupling.
- Magnetic Magnetic coupling is top or bottom driven depending on user application.
- Magnetic coupling prevents contamination with leakproof, sealless coupling between motor and stirrer shaft.
- Mechanical Mechanical lip seal with PTFE (Teflon) bush and rust-proof stainless steel bearing and o-rings & v-rings in pharma grade silicone; for contamination-free and sterile smooth agitation.
Motor
- PMDC motor 80W high starting torque.
- AC motor can be provided in case user wishes so

Material

Range

- Depending on coolant and chiller capacity used, sub-zero temperatures (down to -10C) are also possible.
- Thermal insulating vessel blanket/cover will be provided for sub-zero temperatures.

Aeration and DO Module Oxygen
Sensor

- Two gases sparging through 0-5 LPM rotameters with needle valves are provided on front to control flow of air or gas manually

Filters
- 0.2 um membrane sparger inlet and exhaust inline SS capsule filters to prevent contamination.

Sparger
- Ring or straight tubular sparger with inline air filter and flexible silicone tubes.
Peristaltic Pumps
- Two fixed speed peristaltic pumps are with pH Control module.
- One fixed speed with Inoculum/Nutrient Feed/Harvest module for aseptic and contamination-free addition of media and removal of sample
- One fixed speed with Foam Control module
- So up to 4 pumps can be provided on the main control panel
- More peristaltic pumps can be provided as individual units
- Each peristaltic pump comes with its reservoir bottle and sterile port
Foam Control
Sensor
- Autoclavable stainless steel SS316L dual electrodes conductivity type, height-adjustable probe for foam sensing
Control
- 16-bit Microprocessor control. Peristaltic pump switches on timed dispensing of anti-foam agent automatically in case of excess foam
Sterilization
- Sterilizing inside autoclaves up to a pressure of 15 psi and 121C.
- The vessel,head plate, impeller, probes, sparger, ports are all autoclavable.
- Optional in-situ sterilization with steam generator and solenoid valves.
- The in-situ sterilization system can be used for both SS and glass vessel bioreactors and fermentors.
